He was always there, in the car, on the porch, next to the barbecue, all over the TV room, a neighbor who regaled you, even when he was thousands of miles away. You would hear him cough, you could see him sweat, and you also knew when he was inhaling a sausage sandwich. He wasn't a pretty face, or a golden throat, and he certainly didn't come from central casting. He was green grass and cold beer and bright sunshine. He was fun. He was a fan.
