Casady Baseball 1998

 

Week Ending:  April 12, 1998

April 6:  Casady  16   Piedmont  2

    The Cyclone bats continue to blast.  Justin Rousseau blasts the third Cyclone Grand Salami for 1998.  Tim Stakem pitches a masterful game giving up no earned runs and knocking in 3 ribbys at the plate.  Nick Finley goes 3 for 3 and a double.

April 7:  Casady 9   Bethany  8

    The Cyclones plate 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning & gets the winning run in the eigth inning to win this one over a tough Bethany ball club.  Pete Petromilli gets the hitting star for a 4 for 5 day, 5 ribbys (including game winner), & a double.

April 11:  Casady  13        Okla. Christian   12

    The Cyclone bats get 8 runs in the first inning of game # 1.  Lethargic defense & timely hitting by the Saints makes game one go down to the wire.  Andy Harley & Tim Stakem get 3 hits each.  RBI crown goes to Nickles Finley with 3.  All in all, the Cyclones pound out 16 hits in this 5 inning game.
    Game # 2 has the Cyclones getting 6 runs in the first inning.  This game was'nt as close and the Cyclones breeze to win number 9.  Big bats go to Brian Stubbs (3 ribby double), Josh Sepkowitz (Ruthian home run), Andy Harley (2 hits), & Justin Ruzzo (2 ribby double).  Matt Murphy (win), Clay Smith, & Pat Quillian pitch the Cyclones to victory.

Nothing Gets Through Award (Defensive Gems):

*  Clay Smith diving stab of line drive vs. O.C.S.
*  Clay Smith 2 tough pop fly grabs on a GUSTY Oklahoma day vs. Piedmont.
*  Catcher  Malek Massad blocking numerous (too many to count) balls in the dirt by Cyclone pitching.
*  Nickles Finley with a Vannatta-like diving catch in left field vs. O.C.S.

*  Patrick Quillian gets nailed 5 times this week with HBP.
