Casady Baseball 1998

Week Ending:  May 3, 1998

April 30:   Casady:  9     Episcopal Dallas:  0

On this day, it was a weak E.S.D. team that was no match for the Cyclones.  Cyclones put in an O.K. performance against a team that did not have a real chance of winning.  Matt Murphy did a respectable job picking up the 3 hit victory.  The mighty Cyclones were not so mighty as they only "pounded" out 5 hits, but, took advantage of the Eagles' 7 errors.

April 30:   St. Stephens:   15        Casady:   2

A somewhat embarassing performance by the Cyclones.  The Spartans POUNDED  Cyclone pitching for 19 hits in this 5 inning mercy run rule.  The Cyclones could only muster 2 runs and 3 hits.

May 1:         Casady:  12          St. Johns:  11

The Cyclones had a whole season of events happen in this 7 inning game.  They started out down in the score.  Then they had a big lead.  They blew a big lead.  They were tied.  They were behind again.  They reacted to gain the lead again.  They held on for dear life to win.  Give the Cyclones credit for hanging in there.  Harley, Petromilli, Sepkowitz, & Stakem each had 2 ribbys.  Harley, Petromilli, & Stubbs each collected 2 hits.  The game ends with Freshman Buck Cody striking out the last two batters with the bases loaded and the Cyclones clinging on to a one run lead.

Nothing Gets Through Award (Defensive Gems):

* Tim Stakem guns down a runner at 3 rd base.
* Clay Smith rebounds from an error to catch a man rounding off the base too far.
*  Brian Stubbs with a couple of nice plays at third base.
* Overall, S.P.C. defensive play was Ho Hum.

Moon Pie Mania (Something Special):

* Patrick Quillian gets hit again.  What else is new?  Otherwise, there was nothing to write home about.
